The Most Reverend Carl Purvenas-Smith OSB

Bishop Carl Purvenas-Smith

Auxillary Bishop

After a long career with landings in social services, academia and the private sector, Bishop Carl finished his seminary training and was ordained in the Free Catholic Church as a Deacon January 7, 1993 and a Priest June 6, 1993.  On November 29, 1993, he was ordained a Bishop.  On December 15, 1997, he was incardinated in CACINA and remains in good Benedictine stability.

He and his partner, Mark, own and operate the organic Terrapin Station Herb Farm in York Springs, Pennsylvania.  Their spiritual pursuits are together under the Benedictine tradition and the farming and respect for all creation led to the formation of New Creation Abbey.  The Benedictine tradition does not believe in wasting or misusing any part of the bounty of Creation, and so nothing goes to waste.  Fruit and vegetables that do not sell at the market are turned into jams, jellies or other delectable goodies.   Everything that we do is done with care and love and with a great respect for the One who has given us so much.
